Lloyd Gawura Hornsby
The works on display cover three areas, Yuin dreaming stories, Aboriginal History and Lloyd’s journey. An all-encompassing overview is fundamental to the way Lloyd makes art. Sometimes his vision is not just national, or global, but cosmic. Dots of paint blend with a universe full of stars in rhythmic, hypnotic pictures of ideal coexistence. The natural and the supernatural world become indistinguishable, as they always are in traditional societies. His paintings are intensely optimistic in the way they use modern art as a vehicle for conveying ancient harmonies that world seems to have lost, but which could potentially be re-established.

My background of growing up in country New South Wales has fostered a deep love of nature. Drawing and painting from an early age and being self-taught through my adult years, has enriched my life in numerous ways.
My Paintings explore the Australian landscape as a place of memory, reflection and quiet human presence. Rather than depicting dramatic events, I am drawn to those moments when light, water, trees and open space invite us to pause.
Whether painting bushland around my home, or from my travels, or painting rivers or the edge of a city, I seek to reveal the subtle relationship between people and the environments they inhabit. A lone horseman on a ridge or a small boat resting beneath the skyline becomes less a subject than a reminder of our modest place within a much larger landscape.
