Title:Reconciliation3
Artist: Lloyd Gawura Hornsby
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas (Framed)
Description:
Reconciliation3, is a visual exploration of identity shaped by the artist’s mixed DNA — Aboriginal (Yuin), Chinese, and French. Drawing from the science of melanin, the works examine how skin colour carries both biological function and cultural meaning. Melanin, the pigment that determines skin tone and provides protection from ultraviolet radiation, becomes a lens through which difference, resilience, and exposure are revealed. Darker skin, richer in melanin, reveals greater complexity and depth, while lighter skin appears more exposed. Together, the works map inherited histories — from a Yuin Aboriginal mother to Chinese and French forebears — into a single visual language that speaks to layered identity and lived experience. Everyone in the world is either Black, White, or of Asian descent or a combination there of.
